Hi folk,
Recently, people have begun to feel that the amount of online communication
can be a bit overwhelming, and is preventing people from getting on with
their work. As a result, we're trialling a new approach to online/offline
time.
The new plan is:
1. To have an hour a day of 'online time', where as many people as possible
are available on Skype and IRC. This will run *every weekday from
15:30pm-16:30pm GMT. *If possible, save up all non-urgent queries for this
time slot, and try to avoid over-burdening Skype chat/inboxes for the rest
of the day.
*
*2. To be **invisible** on Skype by default at other times, and logged on
to IRC. *Try to use IRC **where possible*. If you need to use Skype,
consider contacting an individual directly rather than going through the
large groups which alert everyone.
3. I will try and maintain an online presence on Skype (my Skype ID
is*lauranewmanonskype
* - add me!). If you need help, contact me as a first port of call and I'll
try to root you through to the person you need (or gently suggest that your
query might be able to wait until 15:30...! :)).
4. Check your contact details on Highrise,* *particularly that we have an *up
to date contact number*. We will always try to avoid contacting you by
phone, but should an urgent situation arise, it would be good to know that
you can be reached!
We're just trialling this initially, and if it doesn't work we'll look at a
new way of managing things. We certainly don't want anyone to feel isolated
and we want to make sure that people are on-hand to help, but we do also
want everyone to have the space to concentrate undisturbed! Lets see if
this allows us to strike a balance :)
Any questions drop me a line!
All the best,
Laura
