"Plans to encourage more effective use of digital geographic information
(GI) across business and public services have taken a significant step
forward, with the commissioning of a team of consultants to assist the
GI Panel (www.gipanel.org.uk <http://www.gipanel.org.uk>) to create a
UK-wide GI strategy.
The challenge is to formulate a consistent, national strategy that
supports regional strategies and other GI initiatives, taking in a wide
range of stakeholder views."
But the 'wide range of stakeholders' represented include only
government and commercial bodies (eg. Yell.com), there's no-one to
represent non government/commercial users. Even the GI Panel
themeselves comment that there's no academic representation - and they
have no plans to change this.
